WordPress plugins - Meta & Custom fields

Created by Nicolas Wussler, Modified on Wed, 17 Aug 2022 at 04:26 PM by Igor Galic

SyncSpider can read both User and Post Meta fields in WordPress.

However, WordPress is a big and robust system and while it allows you to add as many plugins as you want, some of these plugins can stop other plugins from working.

That's why a lot of plugins give a warning that they will not work with certain other plugins.

We are considering adding this message, but at this point we are managing to keep our plugins working regardless of other plugins.

Custom fields / post meta

Custom fields, also referred to as post meta, is a feature in WordPress which allows users to add additional information when writing a post.

Some WordPress plugin developers choose to use these already existing WordPress meta fields to store their plugin's data.

Every plugin which is using this WP field is automatically supported by SyncSpider - because, SyncSpider can read its field data stored in WP.

E.G. The Custom fields plugin is automatically supported by SyncSpider as it is a native WordPress meta field and can be found here.

Unlike Custom fields, some other WordPress plugins don't create meta fields. Instead they store the data by creating their own tables elsewhere (e.g. Gravity forms).

Be advised

If you create any Custom field in WordPress make sure you update that field and add some value to it, so that SyncSpider can read it easily.

If you create some custom field after you created the task in SyncSpider - make sure you go to the mapping of the task and re-fresh source/target schema.

As there are many of these types of plugins - and we simply can't add support for every WordPress plugin so fast, we invite you to make a suggestion as to what additional plugins you would find most useful. You can voice your opinion here and the most requested ones will be added as soon as possible.

This is just one of the features of SyncSpider!
